I’ll never forget meeting John and Rem. We were standing at our booth at Calgary’s Wedding Fair and John wandered by looking completely zonkered.
See, the Wedding Fair and Bridal Expo shows are amazing because there are so many wonderful things to see, samples to eat, dresses and suits to try, and fab wedding pros to chat with about your wedding plans. But admittedly, by the end of the day, it’s a tiring feat pounding the steam cleaned carpeted pavement of the BMO Centre for hours.
So I’ll never forget the moment, while talking to Rem about engagement photos, that John looked up and saw Raf’s nature-packed photos surrounding us!
You see, John’s a nature landscaper photographer. He knows photography. And, not surprisingly, choosing a wedding photographer was really important to him. He really wanted their photos to highlight the beauty of the Canadian Rockies that they love so much.
You should’ve seen John and Raf gabbing away with one engagement session idea and another, and another, and another! Hahaha! Rem and I connected over watching the two of them getting all artist-y and planning together.
We decided a meet-up in the mountains over a warm cuppa was in order, to continue the fun conversations and idea session. I remember driving home from the city, Raf continuing to think up ideas that he was going to email John and Rem when we got home, and me reflecting warmly at being struck at how lovely, easy-going, and cute a couple these two are! Seriously – look at these two – the sweetest!
The plan was solidified to head up to the iconic Icefields Parkway for a Bow Lake engagement session at sunset. Light was very important to John so sunset was key. Bow Lake is one of John’s favourite places to photograph, and the Icefields Parkway has been named the “drive of a lifetime” by National Geographic for it’s natural splendour and stunning views all which ways!
It gives me the biggest to read emails like the one below from John, because making our couples happy is one of the biggest joys. Here’s a snippet:
“We really LOVE IT! We are very much happy with the outcome of the shoot. We are glad that we chose One Edition to do our engagement pictures. One of the best decisions we’ve made so far concerning our wedding.
“I really love how Raf maximized our chosen venue by taking a shot of us near the lake, having views of mountain, the “forest” setting and the flowers, as if it’s shot in a beautiful garden outside [in] Alberta.”
Getting photos that showed off their beautiful backyard (they live down the road in Calgary) was a big deal to Rem and John. They’re flying 10,930km (roughly!) to a family wedding celebration in the Philippines, where they’ll show these photos to all 350 (!!!) guests.
After we shared this photo on Sunday, John Facebook‘d that he’s already thinking of doing another session! Hehehe!! Love that’s he’s so into photography and getting adventurous with the photos. (They’re always up for adventures these two!).
With the combination of that adventure, and a love of nature, hiking and exploring, it was such a treat and true delight to work with Rem & John for this sunset Bow Lake engagement session. We are so excited for them to be able to share their love of the Rockies with their family and friends next year at their wedding!
Enjoy the engagement photos! x
