Kananaskis Wedding Photographer | A Beautiful Hiking Elopement in Kananaskis

Tim and Grace, and their hiking elopement in Kananaskis, will always be special to us. They’re the sweetest couple, and they’re at the heart of one Raf’s and my favourite photos.

(We don’t have favourite couples – we love them all! But we do have favourite photos, and this is one for the memory books for sure).

There’s just something about Tim and Grace’s gentle serenity, the powerfully peaceful setting, and all that lead to up to the moment. It’s all captured in this photo and just makes our hearts sing. So I want to start this by saying thank you, Tim and Grace, for giving us such a precious photo, the honour of Raf celebrating with you, and the memories from that very special day in the Canadian Rockies that go with it.

That memory is rooted in Kananaskis Country (K-Country, to the locals). It’s a 4,000 square kilometre area west of Calgary. It encompasses a chunk of our home town, Canmore, and is chock full of mountains, foothills and lakes.

Tim and Grace love the area. We love the area. Tim and Grace love hiking. We love hiking. Tim and Grace were so happy to connect with Raf to make their hiking elopement in Kananaskis happen. And we were so happy to connect with them, too!

Their family members knew they were eloping. To help celebrate their love and share in the day, they provided special readings to be shared with Tim and Grace during the hike. Seriously AMAZING and oh so very beautifully wonderful. You can see a couple of stops where Barbara Parker (the celebrant), Tim and Grace stop on the way up to share these touching readings.

We were thrilled to be joined again with Barbara from Threshold Ceremonies. We shared three hiking elopements with her this summer. If you’re planning a hiking elopement in Kananaskis – or anywhere else in the Canadian Rockies – Barbara is your celebrant!  (Take a look at Barbara’s niece’s hiking wedding from earlier this summer.)

Tim, Grace, Barbara and Raf started the day less than 30 minutes from downtown Canmore at the Old Goat Glacier trailhead. They hiked up the side of Goat Mountain, passing magnificent views of waterfalls, lakes, the Spray Valley and, of course, Old Goat Glacier itself. It’s a fab hike.

They hiked in their regular clothes and changed into wedding attire at the top of the mountain. Grace helped Tim with his tie, and Tim fashioned a makeshift changing room for Grace.

Barbara started the ceremony with the sounding of the singing bowl. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this photo! She ‘gongs’ the bowl to signify the start of the ceremony, then again to seal the marriage as she pronounces Tim and Grace husband and wife.

It was our honour to be involved in Tim and Grace’s hiking elopement in Kananaskis this summer. They have so much love – for the mountains, for one another – and it was very special to share in that.

Here’s Tim and Grace’s hiking elopement! Enjoy! x
